-Sumpter Valley Machine Works Locomotive and Car Repair Facility-
The Sumpter Valley Machine Works maintains the steam and diesel locomotives of the Sumpter Valley Railroad to standards set by government regulations which are administered by Federal Railroad Administration. Located in eastern Oregon, S.V. Machine Works also provides services to outside customers with a reputation for quality workmanship on all projects. S.V.M.W. uses experienced mechanics and machinists that are qualified in electrical, mechanical, boiler, running gear and airbrakes for both steam and diesel locomotive repairs.
S.V.M.W. can provide nearly all of the services needed to get your steam locomotive repaired or rebuilt including:
- Complete and accurate FRA Form 4 evaluations and calculations
- Certified ASME Section IX welding procedures
- Complete overhaul of a locomotive's running gear
- Major firebox and boiler repair
- Ultrasonic thickness testing
- Boiler surveys
We also provide services for Diesel locomotives including:
- Changing out engines and generators
- Truck rebuilds
- Other minor to major component repairs.
In addition, our complete shop services include providing assistance with purchases of equipment, and advice and recommendations on future maintenance needs.
Working inside a 10,000 square foot shop, S.V.M.W. has a large selection of specialized equipment available to suit your locomotive repair needs. This allows us to handle nearly all jobs from a complete Locomotive rebuild to turning wheels and rebuild of other smaller components.
